Voetstoots means “sold as seen” … but unlike “Emptor Caveat” there is nothing to be wary of with this little beauty!
This is winemaker Xander’s first foray in to the wonderful world of Chenin Blanc, working with two blocks of old vine Chenin Blanc in Stellenbosch. What a fantastic first effort! Sun ripened yellow peaches, cantaloupe melon, and hay drying in the sun. There's a wonderful feeling of warmth to this wine, with plenty of depth to the palate thanks to the old vines. Pithy, with an electric fresh finish. Lekker!
Xander Grier stems from the Villiera family – his day job sees him make half a million bottles of MCC a year! Whilst Villiera makes the most of modern technology and winemaking equipment, Stand Alone is back to basics - working by hand and foot, with the help of gravity in the cellar, and no additions other than minimal sulphur. Stand Alone is his, er, attempt to stand alone.
